Irma Yolanda - A Story of Hope
Irma Yolanda Figueroa Santizo de Juárez, a 56-year-old woman, learned about the medical mission through a social media post shared by her cousin, who works as a social worker in Santa Apolonia. For the past eight years, she had been living with a xanthelasma on her eyelid. Although the condition was not life-threatening, it had been a persistent concern, and she was grateful for the opportunity to be evaluated by the ophthalmology team during the mission.
Following a comprehensive examination, the specialists determined that she was a candidate for surgical removal of the xanthelasma. The procedure was performed successfully during the mission by Dr. Sara Wester and Dr. Marissa Shoji. Throughout the experience, Irma felt comfortable and reassured by the kindness, professionalism, and compassion shown by the physicians, translators, nurses, and the entire medical team, who carefully explained each step of her care.
Today, Irma is recovering well and is delighted with the outcome of her procedure. She expressed heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to receive specialized care and believes that initiatives like this bring hope and improve the lives of many people who otherwise would not have access to this care. She encourages others to pay attention to future mission announcements and to seek care with confidence, highlighting the exceptional dedication of the entire team.
