A Life-Changing Surgery
Andrea Roxana Alvarado Tiguilá, from a community in San Felipe, first sought care during a medical outreach at Hospital Hilario Galindo after experiencing over a year of heavy and increasingly frequent menstrual bleeding. Along with prolonged periods, she began to suffer from fatigue, abdominal pain, and intense lower back pain that made even simple movements difficult.
During her evaluation, further testing revealed multiple large uterine fibroids. After carefully reviewing her condition and treatment options, the medical team recommended a hysterectomy as the most appropriate course of care.
Faced with financial uncertainty, Andrea initially hesitated. As a homemaker who occasionally supports her husband’s small and irregular business, the possibility of undergoing such a major procedure felt out of reach.
Through the outreach, Andrea learned about IEP’s surgical program, which provides specialized care at no cost to patients. Encouraged by the compassion and professionalism of the medical team, and guided by her faith, she chose to move forward.
Throughout the process, she felt supported by translators and healthcare providers who explained each step with clarity and care. Her surgery was successful, and her recovery progressed faster than she had expected.
Today, Andrea expresses deep gratitude to God and to the team she describes as “earthly angels.” Their dedication made it possible for her to receive life-changing care—care that would have otherwise remained beyond her reach.
