It’s Growing Season!

As we move into the summer months, we are reminded by the abundance at our local farmers’ markets that this is the growing season. And at IEP, it is a growing season as well. In Tecpán, Chimaltenango the signs of growth are hard to miss!

The Esperanza Center

Progress at the construction site of the Esperanza Center is really starting to show. IEP is undertaking this new initiative to provide much needed vocational training and healthcare services to people in the area.

The Esperanza Center will be comprised of four modules. The Salka Culinary Institute will occupy one module, training local people in the various skills that are very much in demand by restaurants in the area. Two other modules will house classrooms where trades such as carpentry, welding and sewing will be taught.

The fourth module of the Esperanza Center will be dedicated to healthcare, providing both regular clinical and dental care as well as surgical interventions. The Esperanza Center healthcare module will contain a dental treatment center, an eye clinic, multiple medical exam rooms, and a fully equipped operating room dedicated to cataract and other eye surgeries.

It is no wonder that the local community can’t wait for this project to be completed later this year!

El Molino School

We are also experiencing growth on the campus of IEP’s El Molino School. Thanks to the success of IEP’s Education Program which includes a Montessori-based Early Childhood Center and an innovative tablet-based high school program, this school year has seen record enrollment.

With this success a new challenge has arisen: there is not enough classroom space for the more than 400 children enrolled this year!

We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the dedicated parents who pooled their resources to purchase cinder blocks and then constructed the temporary classroom seen here. Their determination and commitment to their children's education are truly inspiring!

But this is just a temporary solution. To continue providing these vital programs to all the children in the area, IEP will need to construct additional classroom space. And this is where YOU come in.

Help IEP support this incredible community. Your donation, no matter how small, will go towards building additional classrooms.
